An elevated exhibition
Our own Denitsa Dimitrova, the curator and driving force behind Асансьор, the pop-up art space located in the industrial elevator inside our office, gives us an in depth inside look of the project and its inspiration.
Art and Space: Playing with the Functions of the Elevator
The space of a freight elevator has a strictly defined function – transporting heavy and voluminous goods. But when transformed into an exhibition hall, it takes on a new dimension. The rough and industrial feel of the metal walls, high load capacity, and limited perimeter meet their opposite – soft shapes, bright colors, and organic materials. This dichotomy creates an artistic tension that challenges the senses and perception of space. The art is not merely decoration in the elevator, it is a way to reconsider its very function and purpose.
The Selection of Artists: Creators of the Everyday Life
The focus of this exhibition is on less-known but highly innovative artists, often “unnoticed” outside creative circles. They are people who, by rethinking the ordinary, turn unexpected places – like this elevator – into platforms for expression. In this sense, the selection of artists is not a complex process. Are they in the room with us right now? They are always with us, in the small, everyday moments.
Installation in “Movement”: A Pause in the Fast-Paced World
The use of an elevator as an exhibition space is no coincidence — it symbolizes brief moments of movement and stillness, a pause between floors and stages. The exhibition invites viewers to see these brief moments of pause not just as transitions but as opportunities for self-awareness and interaction with art. The arrangement of the large-scale artworks aligns with the elevator’s function, while the contrasting colors emphasize the tension between the dynamics of urban life and the need for a moment of calm and contemplation.
